For nearly a decade, I had participated in the “20in24” 24-hour ultramarathon in Philadelphia each July benefiting Back on My Feet.

That event was last held in 2015 and to preserve my ultramarathon fundraising tradition, I have created a local July ultramarathon to benefit the East Brandywine Fire Company. The 49for49 event was first held on July 1st, 2017.

Rather than collecting donations through my website, I am asking for pledges. After the 49for49 event, I will contact everyone who made a pledge and request a donation directly to the EBFC via their website. All donors will receive a hand-written Thank You card in the mail.

Lastly, the reason that I chose to fundraise for the East Brandywine Fire Company – I think that they are one of our community’s most valuable resources and I know that we do not have enough residents donating to their annual fund drive. They have helped out my family in our various activities – from helping with the annual Fall Festival bonfire at Brandywine Wallace to hosting AED/CPR training for EBYA baseball and soccer coaches, they are always available and willing to help. And most personally – I cannot thank them enough for their prompt, professional, and thorough response to my wife’s car accident back in January 2017.

And for that and more – they should be well recognized and funded.
